Conte dismisses 'unfounded' Manchester United speculation after Como defeat
Antonio Conte has denied being in advanced negotiations with Manchester United, calling recent reports 'unfounded' in a statement on Instagram. The speculation followed claims by Italian newspaper La Repubblica that the former Chelsea manager held talks with United's board to replace Michael Carrick after a 4-1 Champions League defeat to Como. While BBC Sport understands Conte is keen on the job, he stated there are currently no negotiations at an advanced stage. Carrick's future remains uncertain, though he is expected to remain in charge for Sunday's Premier League match against Bournemouth. Sources indicate United have begun identifying possible replacements, with Eddie Howe and Julian Nagelsmann also linked to the role. Conte, a free agent since leaving Napoli, emphasised that any concrete opportunity would lead to joint discussions regarding terms. Meanwhile, Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler has distanced himself from similar links, stating he is focused on his current role with the Seagulls.
