David Templeton: Celtic tried to hijack my Rangers transfer but I said no
David Templeton reveals that Celtic attempted to hijack his transfer to Rangers, a move he described as a no brainer despite being a boyhood fan of the Glasgow rivals. The incident occurred while Templeton was at the Rangers Training Centre, when Celtic manager Neil Lennon personally called to make an offer. Templeton declined the approach, prioritising his commitment to the Gers. This episode highlights the intense rivalry between the two clubs and the personal loyalty players often feel towards their chosen destination. The story serves as a testament to Templeton's decision-making process during a high-pressure period in his career. It underscores the competitive nature of Scottish football, where even personal connections and childhood allegiances can be tested by managerial interest. The player's account provides a unique insight into the behind-the-scenes negotiations that often go unreported. By choosing Rangers, Templeton aligned himself with the club that had secured his signature, rejecting the alternative path presented by his neighbours.
